My Bangkok Trip

I had a great time last weekend at Bangkok. Andy was my tour guide for the 3 days, bringing me for foot and body massages, Nan Xing bird's nest soup at Chinatown, shopping at the famous Chatuchak market and various malls, plenty of good food, and even a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River.

This is the nearest train station to the hotel where i was staying..

On Friday night, i met up with Andy for drinks at the supposedly famous Long Table.. It was a bar with a roof top al fresco setting and a great city view.

On Saturday morning, we had beef noodles for brunch at this supposedly famous beef noodle store owned by a Chinese. It was recommended by the doorman at my hotel.. The entire meal of 2 bowls of beef noodles + one bottle of Coke cost us only 35 baht = S$1.50. Ridiculous right?! This was the Coke i had. Super old school.. don't get these very often nowadays..

After the beef noodles, i checked out his apartment at Centerpoint residences on the 36th floor. It was a 70 square meters apartment, small and cosy. We took some time trying to figure out how to work his front loading washing machine, then he went for a swim whilst i read my Donald Trump book in the outdoor jacuzzi.. That was LIFE.. = )

It started thundering shortly after and we were chased out of the pool by the security. So i hang around at his apartment until the rain stopped, and then we headed out for lunch and some shopping at Siam. There was this cooking competition at the mall, and i also saw a lot of sculptures in the mall which i loved. This fork and tomato one reminds me of the famous "Spoonbridge and Cherry" at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden..

For lunch, we had Japanese at "Fuji" restaurant. We over ordered. Actually, I over ordered. We had chawamushi, garlic fried rice, kani maki sushi, gyoza, salmon with beancurd, sashimi with rice and cha soba. Naturally, we couldn't finish the food.. Was "scolded" by Andy for ordering so much.. Nonetheless, it was an extremely satisfying meal, and i had the best garlic fried rice in my life! = ) There were chinese sausage bits, salmon bits, raisins, and garlic in the rice. Delicious!

Lunch was followed by more shopping, a foot massage, and then "Disaster Movie" at night. I got a shock of my life when my foot masseur started to massage my arms and pulled my fingers.. i nearly jumped out of my skin, and had to ask her not to pull my right index finger which i still could not bend. = ) As for the movie, it was indeed a disaster. Totally crappy. The only thing interesting was the fact that i had to stand up before the movie started, to pay respect to the Thai king. There was a short video clip on the King and his meetings with his people, and everyone stood at attention. This was my first time doing this so i thought it was quite cool.. = )

Andy's driver drove us around on my last day on Sunday. We went shopping at the famous Chatuchak, but i ended up buying nothing. Was totally fried by the hot sun though! = ) The whole place is a freaking maze.. After shopping, we had Thai food for lunch at this air-conditioned shopping mall.. We ordered thai fish cake, seafood fried rice, crab with glass noodles, and deep fried fish. Another delicious meal. They even had a father and son band performing some Thai numbers while we ate! The little boy got so much "Style" right? But he can't sing to save his life.. but very cute lah..

Lunch was followed by more shopping to look for the handbags mom and sis wanted me to buy, and the gear shift knob that K wanted. I managed to get one "Gucci" and one "LV" bag for the ladies, but not the knob. In the evening, we went for some Nan Xing bird's nest in Chinatown, follwed by a buffet dinner cruise on the beautiful Chao Phraya river. It was totally mesmerizing. The view was magnificent, i saw a lot of majestic temples, and also the Grand Palace and the Rama 8 Bridge. Food was sucky though, but the experience was unforgettable. There was a live band and performance, and towards the end of the cruise, the crew pulled people on the dance floor for some partying all the way until we reached the docking bay. This is indeed the highlight of my entire trip, and a good way to end the last day of my trip too.

After the cruise, Andy brought me for a full body massage at The King & I , and we parted ways after that. That was officially the end of my trip. This trip was the best birthday present i have given to myself. I was happy, yet sad at the same time. Nonetheless, i think something inside me healed.. = )
