The usual gang of 6 met up today at Holiday Inn Parkview for their 1-for-1 lunch buffet.. It was to celebrate F's birthday. I had made reservations for high tea at Marriott Cafe, but S complained that it was too pricey. So we changed it to Holiday Inn instead..
The verdict? Food was horrible. In fact, only the kueh lapis was above average. And F, the birthday girl, actually said the food was "Rubbish". I was actually a bit upset, cause i had known that the Holiday Inn buffet will definitely not be as nice as high tea at Marriott Cafe. And i had planned for a nice high tea at a comfortable place where we can chit chat while eating. We ended up eating crappy food in a super crowded (because of the 1-for-1 promotion) place that is not very comfortable for chit chatting.
K said i should try and understand that S and EK cannot afford if we go to Marriott, given that there are so many birthday celebrations recently, and also the fact that we need to save up for our Perth trip next month. What irks me is the fact that Marriott and Holiday Inn is like only $10 difference but we can get so much better food! And also the fact that we spent a lot more on EK's birthday dinner, but when it comes to F's birthday, suddenly S feels Marriott is too expensive? To me, it's like if it's her boyfriend we can all spend more, you know?! But deep down inside, i know this is not the case, but it's just a thought that crossed my mind when i got upset just now.
In fact, the whole day didn't go according to my plan at all. We were supposed to cut the birthday cake after lunch at my place, but ended up serving the cake at the hotel instead. And because everyone was super full, the cake was not even cut at all.
After lunch, everyone came over to my place. Some played mahjong, while some watched a documentary on the infamous Annabel Chong. We were supposed to have my mooncake party and carry lanterns after mahjong. In the end, B went for a concert at Singapore Expo, S left to run errands, EK went out with friends, and the birthday girl F is now still watching DVD in my house. Total screw up! My mooncake party got postponed to next Friday instead. = (
The only good thing that happened is i won $20 from Mahjong.. And i had a good laugh over one of B's presents to F. He bought her a brown "Tarzan" tanga top that looked like something Wilma Flintstone would wear! = )
