Christmas party with my loved ones..

I had my Christmas party at home over the weekend..

This year is the second time we're having a Christmas party at our place with the usual gang. And as usual, we all dressed in green and red.

I decked the living room and kitchen with some decorations to create some festive cheer. K also downloaded a few Christmas albums to play throughout the night, and i borrowed TABOO from Carol for some fun after the feast.

It was potluck, and all of us prepared something for the feast.. I tried my hand at making the tofu that i learned during my Taipei cooking class, but ended up being not very popular. In fact, it became the food for forfeit for the losing team in TABOO!! = (

Macaroon Christmas tree

Baked potato, tofu, sushi, pork knuckles, spaghetti

Ice-cream log cake from Goodwood Park

It was a great party.. good food, great company, and we laughed until our sides ached playing TABOO.. It's amazing how we can guess some of the words based on the clues our friends gave.. = ) Brion is one hellava player. For the word "3D", he said: "What is before 4 and after C?" And "Valentine's Day", his clue was: "What is one day one month after January the 13th?" Best!!

Our friends from the Hundred Acre Woods were not left out either. They were the stars of the evening after S got her present during the gift exchange: 4 baby soft toys of Winnie and friends. So now we have 2 sets!

For the gift exchange, we were supposed to give something of $20 value.. We had picked our receipient a week earlier, and nobody knew who their "Santa" was. Mine was S, and she bought me a nice silver necklace with a dolphin and a cute cup with a lid. B was K's Santa, and as usual, he did not follow the $20 rule and got K a Hugo Boss shirt. He also got me a pink Longchamp coin purse to match my handbag. = ) Actually, i also did not follow the rule. I got a Victorinox mini multi-purpose tool for everyone. Each tool had a different horoscope engraved on it and came in different colors. I have a Libran one and it has served me very well over the past few years! I hope they liked theirs!

We had another round of feasting the day after, mostly to clear the left over food. Played mahjong and watched "The Curse of the Golden Flower" by Gong Li and Chow Yuen Fatt. Very nice show.. boob fest for the guys! = )

My long awaited mooncake party!

I finally had my mooncake party last Friday with the usual gang of 6. K and I went over to one of our fave coffee shops, Mak's Place and packed dinner for everyone. We had fried kang kong, mee and kuay teow goreng, cereal calamari, fried rice, egg omelette and tom yam soup..

When we arrived home, B was already there, so we played a few rounds of mahjong while waiting for the rest. EK and S arrived an hour later. F was gonna work overtime, so we started dinner without her. After dinner we had another few rounds of mahjong. I was the overall winner and took home $36 winnings in total. F arrived halfway through our mahjong, so she watched Sex & THe City Season 6, while EK went online to search for our accomodation in Perth. When she arrived, F had a bouquet of sunflowers with her. Apparently, her colleagues had bought it for her as a birthday gift. The cheeky bunch of us all went "Wah..." when she stepped into the house..
= ) Frankly, i don't quite believe the flowers are from her colleagues, more like her boyfriend maybe?! Sigh.. this girl is so mysterious nobody knows whether she is attached or not!

Mahjong ended around 12 midnight, and we started attacking the mooncakes.. we had champagne and chocolate flavoured snowskin mooncakes, the traditional baked skin double egg yolk mooncakes, hot "Happy" tea from Korea (courtesy of B), and pomelo (courtesy of F). After the mooncakes, everyone helped to clear up the mess, and got ready for lantern carrying.

We all had to choose our favourite color for the lanterns, and i took them all down from my ceiling. Finally! After one whole week.. There was a matching color candle for each lantern, so we lit the candles, attached it to the wooden sticks and went downstairs, all 6 of us with 6 lanterns of different colors. EK was sending the rest home, so we decided to take the lanterns and walk to his car.

I thought the lanterns were so beautiful with the bright colors, but i guess we must have been quite a sight : 6 adults carrying lanterns and walking at 2am in the morning! S thought it was quite errie carrying lanterns in the middle of the night, kinda like one of those chinese horror movies where there is some connection between ghosts and lanterns.. We also walked past a Malay couple snuggling in the pavilion, and they stared at us and giggled to themselves.. I couldn't help smiling to myself along the way. = )

It was a short stroll to EK's car. When we reached the car, we all threw the lanterns into a small canal beside the car and let it all burn out.. I felt like I had just completed a long awaited ritual. It was a lovely way to end the night.. = )

Another birthday celebration ..

The usual gang of 6 met up today at Holiday Inn Parkview for their 1-for-1 lunch buffet.. It was to celebrate F's birthday. I had made reservations for high tea at Marriott Cafe, but S complained that it was too pricey. So we changed it to Holiday Inn instead..

The verdict? Food was horrible. In fact, only the kueh lapis was above average. And F, the birthday girl, actually said the food was "Rubbish". I was actually a bit upset, cause i had known that the Holiday Inn buffet will definitely not be as nice as high tea at Marriott Cafe. And i had planned for a nice high tea at a comfortable place where we can chit chat while eating. We ended up eating crappy food in a super crowded (because of the 1-for-1 promotion) place that is not very comfortable for chit chatting.

K said i should try and understand that S and EK cannot afford if we go to Marriott, given that there are so many birthday celebrations recently, and also the fact that we need to save up for our Perth trip next month. What irks me is the fact that Marriott and Holiday Inn is like only $10 difference but we can get so much better food! And also the fact that we spent a lot more on EK's birthday dinner, but when it comes to F's birthday, suddenly S feels Marriott is too expensive? To me, it's like if it's her boyfriend we can all spend more, you know?! But deep down inside, i know this is not the case, but it's just a thought that crossed my mind when i got upset just now.

In fact, the whole day didn't go according to my plan at all. We were supposed to cut the birthday cake after lunch at my place, but ended up serving the cake at the hotel instead. And because everyone was super full, the cake was not even cut at all.

After lunch, everyone came over to my place. Some played mahjong, while some watched a documentary on the infamous Annabel Chong. We were supposed to have my mooncake party and carry lanterns after mahjong. In the end, B went for a concert at Singapore Expo, S left to run errands, EK went out with friends, and the birthday girl F is now still watching DVD in my house. Total screw up! My mooncake party got postponed to next Friday instead. = (

The only good thing that happened is i won $20 from Mahjong.. And i had a good laugh over one of B's presents to F. He bought her a brown "Tarzan" tanga top that looked like something Wilma Flintstone would wear! = )

My claypot rice craving and my mooncake party!

I finally satisfied my craving for claypot rice when i had it for lunch today.. After no news from him for a week, SC emailed me and Em to ask us out for lunch.. I told him about my craving and less than an hour later, ZOOM! we were in his car headed towards Chinatown..

I can always count on good ol' SC! He's such a big brother to me, from the time we worked in the same team, even until now that he's left the company and joined a company whose office is in the building next to ours.. I still remembered the last time when i had a craving for Kueh Ah Boon. He didn't know what the hell it was, but still brought me and Em out for lunch at this hawker center where there are a few shops selling kueh. I didn't manage to get my Kueh Ah Boon.. Of the 3 shops i asked, none of them knew what the hell Kueh Ah Boon was.. A few days later, i got an email from SC with this website that sells all kinds of kuehs, INCLUDING my Kueh Ah Boon.. So sweet right!! = )

Lunch was not bad, but not as good as i thought it was.. I tried out the psycho-motor trick with SC and Em over lunch, asking them to rotate the right foot clockwise while writing the number 6 with their right index finger.. We had a good laugh over it. After lunch, Em and SC went for dessert, but i skipped. They then accompanied me to shop for paper lanterns, and the little "Piglet in a basket" cookies for my mooncake party this weekend. As we made our way out, I saw an escalator right in the middle of the hawker center. Not a common sight, i thought!

Eventually, I didn't manage to buy any paper lanterns. I wanted something plain and cheap, but the ones in Chinatown were elaborate and expensive. So i ended up buying 6 "Piglet in a basket" cookies in different colored baskets. One for each of us for the party this weekend! = )

During the ride along Chinatown, i saw that the Mid-Autumn decorations were already up. All the lanterns and flowers.. it was such a pretty sight!

My National Day Party

10 August 08 was in stark contrast to the 9th Aug. I woke up at 3pm, still sober from last night's partying.. K was not home when i woke up.. we had not reconciled yet.. but the National Day dinner party at my house was still on.. K had bought lunch and left it on the bar counter.. it was one of my favorite food : Peanut Pancake!!

He came back for a while, we talked a bit.. he asked how i felt and if i still wanted our friends to come over.. i said it was up to him.. he then left shortly to buy some last minute food for the party.. we were supposed to make baked potato rosti with meat, but there was no time for that then.. about 3 hours later.. our friends started streaming in..

The dress code for the party was supposed to be red and white.. but only myself and my air steward buddy (whom i can always count on!!) came properly attired.. = (

My best girl friend F, as usual, ever defiant, came in a turqoise blue dress.. She did the same thing during our Christmas party last year.. everyone came dressed in red or green.. but our dear F was the only one who came in all Black..

It was a night of feasting and laughing. We had cold pasta salad, roast chicken meat, toasted crispy seawood chicken roll, sausages, and a giant size chocolate birthday cake..

After dinner, we played Ninentendo Wii.. EK had gone through all the trouble to borrow the console from his cousin.. We played Boxing, Tennis, Super Mario , and laughed till our sides ached.. halfway through all the playing and laughing, K and I made up.. = )

That night was the first time in many weeks i actually laughed so hard and really felt happy.. i had good food and the good company of friends i truly treasure and love..

Here are some photos of the birthday cake that B bought.. when we lighted the 43 candles, we were all standing around contemplating whether to sing a birthday song for our country or not.. in the end, we decided it was quite dumb to do so.. So instead, we just counted to three and blew the candles together.. it was a nice, warm feeling..

That night, i had all my cake, AND ate it.

A night of partying and more pimples..

After dinner at my parent's place yesterday, i went home.. in my fit of anger, i had told K that i will not be going home, and that i won't be at home for the party today either.. i was actually having a really bad migraine, and had wanted to just go home and sleep. BUT the "devil" side of me won and i didn't..

So i went home, changed, and went out partying at St James... i had every intention to get myself pissed drunk. It has been a LONG LONG time since i last went partying.

Some friends of mine had booked a karaoke room (it was someone's birthday) and had invited me over.. i'm not really a karaoke person but i thought what the heck.. there was nothing to lose and i really wasn't in the mood to go home.. there was singing, games, and plenty of hard liquor..

Unfortunately, i didn't dance as much i would have loved to last night.. cause none of the group wanted to dance, and only one girlfriend accompanied me to the dance floors.. we went to Bellini room first. There was a performance and 2 dudes were asked to go up to the stage to dance.. the singer kinda unbutton this poor guy's shirt halfway through the dance, and the crowd went wild.. the guy had like rock hard abs! And he was cute. SOME eye candy i must say..

Eventually, i didn't get drunk. A bit high though, but it was too late, cause by the time i was high (about 3 AM), the group wanted to head back.. They had succeeded in making the birthday boy 70% drunk (which was a tough feat cause he is a good drinker). The poor guy was so red in the face, and he was like mumbling away.. but he still can sms on his phone. everytime i look at him, i laughed.

I had a pretty good time laughing more than dancing yesterday night.. And oh, i heard the worst pick up line ever.. these guys tried to pick my friend up yesterday night at the dance floor.. and his pick up line to her was : "Are you from China?" WTF??!!

My friend was totally pissed off.. she stared at him and said : "No i am Singaporean". She pointed to the National Flag tattoo she had on her arm (from attending the parade earlier) and said to the guy : "See this? SINGAPOREAN!!"

It was hilarious.. that was not the worst.. the same guy then came up to me, told me that he thought my friend was beautiful, and then asked me if i was from China.. i was so bloody tempted to step on his toes with my 3 inch heels.. not because i felt it was an insult to be seen as a china girl (since most of them are beauties!), but simply because i can't believe he can be so lame!! MY GOD~

The Dark Knight - Part 2

You know, i still can't believe they cannot find a better looking actress to play Batman's girlfriend Rachel.. Damn.. Spiderman's girlfriend is like 10 times hotter than her !

Anyway, back to the question that K asked while we were waiting for our car outside Zouk.. What are those people searching for?? the people who go clubbing.. K says these people might be going there so that they are not missing out on something, so that they can tell every one of their friends (who don't club) that they have been there, tell them all about the latest and most happening scenes and the people they met at the clubs.. kinda like an ego boost thingie.. I keep asking myself why I like to go clubbing.. Seriously, i don't know.. i thought all along that it was because i enjoyed the crowds, and the music and the dancing. Then K asked if i would go to clubs and dance alone, cause i would achieve the same thing as well. And my answer was no. Which led me to wonder again, why the hell did i club so much when i was younger? Hmm...

The Dark Knight

I finally went to watch "The Dark Knight" today at Great World City. It was one of the movies i've been to...

Haha.. no lah, the show didn't suck, it was the process of getting to the cinema that sucked.. the carpark was full everywhere, we couldn't find a place to park, and we were running late. Ended up parking at the valet carpark opposite Zouk, and had to walk like forever to get to the cinema.. And i was hungry as well..

I had to give credit to dear old Heath for his fantastic performance.. but i didn't really understand the ending though. And Morgan Freeman is amazing as usual.. People should go watch "The Bucket List".. another Freeman masterpiece.

After the show, we took a slow walk back to Zouk. As we stood outside the valet carpark waiting for our car, i couldn't help but feel nostalgic. I kinda missed the days where i would go "clubbing" at Zouk. There was as usual a queue outside Zouk, the crowd seems to be getting younger though.. As i stood there missing the good old days, my husband asked me a question: What are these people REALLY looking for??

I told him for me, it was just fun.. but he said it can't be, and that it was something much deeper.. Hmmm.. i wonder..

Babies et al.

12:47 AM by Adeline Woo 1 comments
It doesn't take a genius to figure out why i use the above title for today's entry.. As mentioned yesterday, i was supposed to attend 2 baby parties today, but instead, I went for just one baby party (the 1 year old's), while my husband went for the baby shower alone.. (My handphone just hanged on me. ARGHH!!!)

During the ride to the party, we had this discussion about having a baby.. (which didn't go very well by the way..) Then when we arrived at the party, there were so many babies and children in the house that i felt i was in a huge playground. Then i had to see my primary school friend at the party with a 7 month old baby boy. Apparently, she had a shotgun marriage 6 months ago.. And the birthday girl was so adorable that i wanted to carry her. But she didn't want me to and started crying before i could even touch her.. = (

After the party, i went to our corporate secretary's office in Clarke Quay to seek some advice on filing the Annual returns and AGM for Vivatech. Apparently, i had 2 datelines to meet: One for filing AGM and Annual returns to ACRA by 31 July 08, and the other for filing the Directors' Report and Form C to IRAS by 30 August 08.. SIANZ!!

Later in the afternoon, we went over to Suntec and Marina Square.. went into POSB and bought another 2 unit trusts.. at the bank, there was this baby boy in his pram who looked so happy with his little balloon. My husband said he looked like a cartoon character.. think the sight of this cartoon character made him want to be a father even more..

I wonder how i would look like pregnant?? Like this?? haha... i wish so!! Hot mamma huh?

TGIF!!

Actually it's already Saturday now as i am writing this, so it should be TGIS! instead of TGIF..

My "F" started pretty "F-up", but it kinda ended well, because i cleared another dateline!! YAY!!

It was another happening day in the office today.. didn't even have time for lunch, but being the kind samatarian that he is, Mr. New AND1 basketball shoes actually bought duck rice back for me today. Then after lunch, we had a mentoring program kick off session. Was stuck in the conference room for 1 hour listening to some crap about mentoring and initiating new employees into the company.. then the next 1 hour was spent more meaningfully with nice sandwiches, spring rolls and surprisingly fresh orange juice. There was the usual chit chatting with people from various departments.. One of my colleagues passed a casual remark that the HR girl who organized the session was so fake.. i actually thought she was quite okay.. at least not as fake as this other girl i know in my department..

Tomorrow i have to attend 2 baby parties - one baby is 1 month old, and the other's 1 year old.. looks like everyone around me is having babies except me..

Not sure if i want to have one so soon actually.. but it seems my husband's biological clock is ticking faster than mine.. sigh.. = (

Now i need to get some beauty sleep..
