Finally hitched!

EK and S is finally married!  Actually, they registered their marriage one year ago, while K and I were in New Zealand, but they finally held their wedding banquet 2 weekends ago.

I am SOOO happy for the two of them.. We've been hanging out for the last 6 years now, and have gone through a lot of stuff together..  S share the same english name as me, they are both our regular mahjong khakis, house party khakis, and not forgetting traveling companions.  K and I have been to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau, Perth and New Zealand with the two of them.  In fact, K and I are the ones who persuaded them both to quit their jobs to go New Zealand and do what we did!  Their relationship definitely grew a lot during this period, and I am proud to be part of their lives.. = )

The wedding was a unique outdoor event at The Legends.  I love the whole decor.  So nice!  Food was so so though.  The bride and groom sang a duet for their second march in.  How apt given that they are both karaoke lovers!

Me, June and the gorgeous bride

My weekend

I had another interesting weekend.

On Saturday, i went to Sentosa with K and my father in law for his company's family day.

Last year, we also went to Sentosa, and got free admission to the underwater world.  But this year, there was no free admission to anything.  Guess everyone's cutting costs these days!

It was quite boring cause everybody just basically hang around the tentage area waiting for the free lunch and the lucky draw.  There was tug of war, and this item on the agenda called "Dunk the bosses" which i had fun watching.  They basically set up this inflatable tub and fill it up with water, then have the boss sit above the tub with a lever attached to his seat.  This lever has a round red metal plate at the end, and for $10, you get 3 balls to throw and try and hit the red plate so the boss falls into the water.  All proceeds go to charity. I had a good laugh watching this guy fall into the tub several times in a row. Most of the time, kids get to throw, and if they miss the first 2 times, the MC will move them so close to the red plate that it was a 100% hit.  But if they still miss the third time, somebody will still push the plate manually and dunk the boss. haha.. =)  It's kinda good to know there are so many sporting bosses around (think they had 5 or 6 to take turns) who are willing to do this for charity.. = )

After a while, K and I got bored, so we left and drove around the island while my father in law chatted with his colleagues and waited for the lucky draw.  We went to the Merlion, took some pictures, drove past the upcoming Resorts World and Universal Studio sites, and back.  We waited nearly 2 hours for the whole thing to be over.. K and I won't usually stick around for lucky draws, but my in laws have a reputation of always winning something at lucky draws so we stuck around.  And sure enough, my father in law got the 6th prize - $150 Tangs voucher. = )  It's really freaky how they ALWAYS win something at lucky draws!

After the carnival, we headed to the new Mazda showroom at Alexandra to check out the new MX-5 NC model.  I still prefer our current model = )

By the time we got back home at 2pm, i was hungry and exhausted (as usual).  K brought me out for dinner at "Out of the Pan" at Raffles City in the evening.  We ordered the Xmas set, which included 2 ham and cheese and mushroom crepes, 2 fruity drinks, and dessert - some creme brulee with ice cream and crepe.  Nothing fantastic for the price we paid!

On Sunday, we met up with some folks from the MX-5 club for Kueh Chup lunch at Ang Moh Kio.. There's a coffee shop there that sells one of the best Kueh Chup i've tasted.. = )

There were 6 couples there, and we waited for nearly an hour for everyone to arrive before we could order.  By then i was starving.. There was plenty of the usual chit chatting about cars and my pending delivery, and the upcoming Christmas party on the 20th Dec.  They said if i go into labor during the party, the whole convoy of more than 20 MX-5s will drive me to Thomson!  haha, now THAT would be cool ! = )

K and I stayed home for the rest of the day.  My helper made dinner, we watched 2 shows on www.pipi.cn, and turned in for the night.  What a weekend!

Mahjong and Dinner

B and  J came over to my place for dinner and Mahjong yesterday.  Seemed liked ages since i had a "party" and some noise over at my house, so it was really nice.  I (or rather my helper) made dinner and i think B enjoyed his dinner a lot.. = )  First time i've prepared home cooked Chinese dinner for 2 good friends.

We had fresh pears over Mahjong, chatted and laughed..  Although i lost again in Mahjong (think my preggers luck is running out), i'm still pretty happy for the company.. Will try and arrange another session this weekend.

My helper is getting rather good at cooking these days. She even made Sushi for lunch 2 days ago!  Didn't know i am such a good cooking teacher.. haha !  I guess supervising someone and cooking the dishes myself makes a whole lot of difference!  = )

What is a Friend?

What kind of a friend are you if:
  • the last time i heard from you was an sms on my birthday more than 2 months ago?
  • you can't even find time to celebrate my birthday with me, and it's been almost 2 months now?
  • you can't even find time to call or sms to ask me how i am, even though i am going through the biggest milestone of my life?

One more day!

K is finally coming back tomorrow!!  Sigh.. i miss him so much for the past 5 days.. = (

Yesterday, Mom and Dad came over to my place with the maid to help me do some housework.  Mom bought mee pok noodles for lunch from the coffee shop below my place and it was yummy!  Didn't know they had such delicious noodles near my place.. haha.. Mom said the stall even appeared on Channel U.. Interesting..

I finally got down to clearing some drawer space to keep all the baby clothes.  After washing all the baby clothes, i realized that the mittens and booties were too small (and troublesome) to be hung individually on the bamboo poles.  So i went downstairs to purchase one of those plastic thingie with little clothes pegs to hang up all the baby booties and mittens.. Everything is so tiny that i couldn't help smiling when i finally finished hanging everything up.  They just look sooo cute!! = )

In the evening, i went to My Humble House at the Esplanade for Ilane's wedding. There, i met up with some of my uni friends. The last time i met some of them was like more than a year ago so we had plenty to catch up on.. I really liked the whole ambience of the wedding. Very unique and not like the normal traditional Chinese wedding at all. First of all, the restaurant had a dark colored theme, so when i went in, i felt like i was going to a posh pub rather than a chinese restaurant. And the food is good too, with inidividual servings for each guest so there was no need for a lazy susan.. I totally love that cause it means i don't have to stretch and take the food myself.. haha..  Plus, the theme of the wedding was Alice In Wonderland.  Although none of the guests dressed according to the theme, the bride had a really interesting outfit for her evening gown that fitted the theme.  And i like that the table numbers were displayed using poker cards. = )

After the dinner, I was supposed to have supper / ice cream with Xia and Mok.  But in the end, we decided against it, cause that would mean that we would stay past midnight, and i would have to take a cab back, cause nobody could send me home.  Plus, Xia said she was on a diet.  So in the end, we decided to meet tomorrow instead for pizza dinner at my place.  Su and Hyder gave me a lift back after the dinner.

Sigh.. this Xia is still the same old girl.. no change at all.. Still smoking a lot, and drinking so much wine at the wedding and talking nonsense.  She actually went for a makeover.  I was quite surprised when i first saw her all made up and hair done up nicely .. = P

I met up with Gary and Pui this afternoon to test drive another car.. K found a better car, same model but much lower mileage. In the end, 4 others from the MX5 club joined us.. haha.. so pai seh leh, one person want to buy car but so many people come along. = )  Anyway, after testing the car, the men said it was a "okay", so i have already made the offer.. hopefully the dealer will agree to our price.

After the test drive, Gary, Pui and I headed to Indoor Stadium for the live basketball game: Singapore vs. Philippines.  Critics have predicted the latter to be the ABL champion this year, so i was expecting Singapore to be trashed.  Plus, when we arrived at the stadium, there was a HUGE mass of Filippinos there supporting and cheering their fellow players.. It was a really exciting match, with lotsa shouting and cheering. Much more exciting than the Brunei match last week.. The game got really rough in the last quarter, BUT Singapore WON!!!!  We were the underdogs!! I am so happy!!  I think i shouted and cheered too much that i felt really uncomfortable after that..  I felt as if my tummy got tighter and heavier.  Think Bria got frightened by all my cheering... = P

23 Sep: Central Adventure

I met up with J today in the late afternoon at Clarke Quay.  We went to Central Mall and caught up with each other over some Japanese desserts. J had a soft sundae with banana slices, while I had a parfait with fresh fruits and 3 scoops of ice cream. We chatted for nearly an hour and told each other so many stories it was as if we haven't met each other in years.. = )

After our little sweet indulgence,  J accompanied me to the basement to buy one of my favourite bread from this little ala-French bakery "Petit Provence".. Another craving of mine.. hehe..  Central is the only place i know that sells these little chocolate croissants. Super expensive ah, $6 for 10 small rolls.  But very nice lah, been eating it for breakfast for the past few days already..

This morning, the Singtel technican came and install our MIO Home for us.  So now we have videos on demand on our TV!  K and I watched "Confessions of A Shoppaholic" at night.  We still have a few more movies to clear before the end of this month when Singtel refreshes the movies..  Then again, most of the movies are really old ones, like "Jumanji" and "Edward's Scissorhands"... super super ancient loh!  Sigh, that's what you get for free, if we want the latest blockbusters, there is a monthly fee to pay. Oh well!

28 Aug: Bria's first concert!

B brought me to Raffles Hotel Jubilee Hall today for the grand finals of the Singapore Airlines Octave III  singing competition. One of his colleagues had made it to the top 12 and had bought 2 tickets for B to come and support him.  According to B, the tickets actually cost $60 each!  Which is over priced if you ask me, cause there were no food served, the goodie bag was nothing fantastic, and we were gonna watch a bunch of unknown amateurs, not some budding rock star!

Anyway, it's been a long time since i attended a concert or performance of any sort, so this was a welcome treat for me.. Plus, i loved the pair of Gordon Max diamond earrings that was included in the goodie bag!!  This must be what the $60 tickets are for.. = )

The whole thing ended around 1045pm, and K came to pick me up.  I had worn the wrong shoes and had developed really bad blisters by the end of the day, so i had no choice but to ask K to pick me up.  Which made me feel bad cause i had planned to take the MRT back with B after the concert.  Sigh.. stupid me had wanted to dress up for the night, but had no proper pregnancy-friendly shoes except my Crocs (which does not go well at all with my dress).  So.. i wore my pointed toe low heeled black cloak shoes and walked the entire day in town, meeting potential customers and then B, and then to the concert.

B's friend did not make it to the top 3 in the end.  Which was a pity, cause he chose the wrong song.  Then again, none of those whom i thought were good won. To me, it's all political, the top 3 for both male and female categories are from different races.  Even though i thought at least 2 Chinese (one of whom was in the top 7 in "Project Superstar") should be in the top 3. Plus, the 2 male and female champions can't sing.  They probably won only because of their showmanship, even though this is supposed to be a singing competition.

I think Baby Bria enjoyed herself tremendously though.  She kicked quite a few times during the concert (B got the chance to feel one of her kicks / somersaults).  Then she continued kicking throughout the whole night, causing me to lose sleep.. I actually woke up at 3am and she was still kicking! = )

26 Aug: Airport Day

I spent almost my entire day at the airport today meeting up with the airline representatives and knocking on their office doors.  Since i came back, i have been calling up airlines to open up new accounts for my business.  So far, i've called more than 30 airlines, and met about 10-15 of them.   I just need 10% of these to give me some revenue. = )

I met up with B for lunch today.  Coincidentally, he had landed from his Dubai / Cairo trip in the afternoon.
We went for Swensen's at Terminal 2, and chit chatted until about 230pm, long after the lunch time crowd had came and gone.  B had wrote an email to me earlier, saying that he will try to buy a mummy doll for my baby from Cairo.. Haha.. He never fails to make me laugh..   We went through his photos of Egyptian pyramids and camels from his Cairo trip, then B gave me a bag of Pumpkin Patch baby stuff that he had bought for my baby in Dubai. My baby's first set of clothes!  So cute right!  I love the mouse booties..

B had a strong hunch that my baby will be a boy, so he bought blue clothes.. haha.. then again, i'm sure baby Bria will look good in blue too.. = )

1st June 2009: Our first public holiday in NZ

Today is the Queen’s birthday and a public holiday in NZ. It also happens to be our off day. We had planned a day out with Ah Ming and Adreana to Rotorua. Initially, the plan was to go to a Polynesian thermal hot spa and soak in the water for the whole day. But we ended up going to an off-road activity center instead.

For breakfast this morning, K had wanted to make Bombay toast. But as usual, we dilly dallied and ended up running late to meet up with the other couple. So K made toast with melted cheese and sugar instead. According to K, the sugar was supposed to caramelized on top of the cheese, but it didn’t. Still, it was nice. = )

We drove over to Ah Ming and Adreana’s motel, picked them up, and headed off to Rotorua around 12pm. Despite knowing that we had eaten breakfast, Ah Ming packed some penne pasta into a lunch box for us. They even wrapped a spoon in a piece of tissue for us to use! The penne pasta was my lunch. There was sausage, onions, fried luncheon meat and plenty of tomato sauce. As usual, it was yummy. Nothing less to expect from a chef!! = ) The rest of them skipped lunch and munched on tidbits instead.

We saw the off-road thingy at the information site that we stopped over at in the town center. Which was a good thing cause I had a great deal of fun today. We booked ourselves 02 Suzuki 4-wheel drives, and drove into a bush safari jungle full of unexpected obstacles. Throughout the 1 hour drive, we had a guide with us talking through the walkie. It was great fun and I think K enjoyed himself cause he always wanted to drive a 4-wheel drive car and do off roads. The whole ride was bumpy but fun. We drove into huge water holes that submerged half of the car, drove down extremely steep slopes that made me scream like I was on a roller coaster ride, drove into a dark cave, and also drove a short distance along a small slope with our car tilted at about 40 degrees. Halfway through the drive, the guide asked us to stop and took pictures for us. = ) Here are some of the photos we took.. And videos.. more on Facebook!!

Us before we set off for the safari drive!

One of the obstacles we had to do: Drive the car at a 40 degrees angle

After our off-road adventure, we went to explore the other activities in the center. We watched some people go-kart and drift, and another group doing clay bird shooting. After that, we headed off and passed by another tourist attraction and decided to go in and take a look. This one had bungy jumping, sky dive simulation, etc. We also saw some interesting animals there. 3 really adorable and fat ponies, and plenty of ostriches! Ah Ming and Adreana fed the ostriches potato chips to lure them to come nearer to the fence, and we took the opportunity snap some really close up photos of the big birds..

We headed off for dinner after that. We had made dinner reservations at Valentine’s earlier in the day. Valentine’s is a restaurant serving western style buffet meals. I didn’t really like the spread though. Thought it was pretty expensive for the kind of food they served. We chatted over dinner for the next 2 hours until about 8pm, then headed home.

Overall, it was a fun day, given that we haven't really done much "playing" for the past 2 weeks stuck at the pack house!!

Our new found friends..

K and I have been having good and nutritious food for lunch everyday ever since Ah Ming agreed to cook for us. There's always meat and vegetables, and sometimes soup, with cooked rice of course.

Yesterday, we had herbal chicken soup and fried eggs and vegetables. K aske Ah Ming for recipe on cooking herbal soup, cause he is still with the belief that i am pregnant so he wants to make some nutritious soup for me. Ah Ming was nice enough to cook the soup for lunch a few days later.. haha.. = )

Work was until 430pm yesterday. It was another crazy day for me. After about 2 hours of work in the morning, i was transferred from the packing line to do pre-grading. Basically, grading is where the kiwi fruits gets checked for flaws and poor quality before it goes onto the conveyor belt for packing. Pre-grading is the very first stage of quality checks before the kiwis goes into the line for grading. So i had to stand on a platform and look at thousands and thousands of kiwis rolling over in front of my eyes on the conveyor belts. My job was to pick out the bad ones and throw them away. I was like throwing 100 kiwis evert 5 minutes i think!! And after about 2 hours, i was completely giddy from all the scanning. I nearly fell down when i started to walk to go for my break cause of the giddiness.. I complained to K during the lunch break and he offered to switch places with me. And so after the lunch break, i went back to packing.

During the afternoon tea break, i couldn't find K. The 2 aunties who were working at the same area as him saw me and told me that my husband is giddy. I got a bit worried so went to look for him in the car. Usually, we will head out to the car during our tea breaks to get some warmth from the sunshine. And there he was.. he looked half dead.. and i couldn't help but laugh.. haha.. very mean i know! = P

Luckily for us, the day ended early yesterday. Ah Ming invited us for dinner at his house, so after work, we went supermarket shopping. We took the opportunity to pay cause they have been really nice to us, cooking lunch for us and all. And always giving us snacks, fruits and sweets!
After the supermarket, K and I left and went to look for an internet cafe, while Ah Ming and Adreana headed home to cook. They refused to let us go back with them to help with the cooking. Eventually, K and I couldn't find the internet cafe. We ended up parking somewhere and sleeping in the car. Around 6pm, we headed to Ah Ming's house.

We had steamboat for dinner. It was another super delicious meal. Ah Ming had cooked Tom Yum soup, and there were so much ingredients. Mee pok noodles, meat balls, fish balls, fish cake, prawns, mushrooms, sweet corn, vegetables etc etc.. Once again, totally unexpected. I would never have thought i will be having steam boat in someone's home here in New Zealand!! haha.. For dessert, we had home cooked steaming hot green bean soup.. Absolutely delightful.

We chatted ALOT during dinner, and the two of them kept pushing stuff to us.. food, packet ingredients, chocolates. They had a few friends from Malaysia who overstayed and were deported back. So all the food stuff that their friends bought are now stuck at their house. It was really a lot of food.. Around 9pm, we headed to our contractor's house to collect our pay check. So now, K and I are slightly richer.. haha.. Just slightly cause the pay is for one week and collected every Friday. We only worked like 2.5 days last week so.. = (

Work was until 230pm today. For some reason, it was super cold today.. and i got so uncomfortable that i was so happy when the supervisor wrote on the black board that we are knocking off at 230pm! After work, K and I went shopping at the nearby mall.. For dinner, we had Chinese buffet.. not too bad... I had goreng pisang.. haha.. another nice surprise..

There are a whole bunch of teenager boys who just checked in this morning into the guest house.. and they are making so much noise now.. Sigh.. That was the reason why K and I didn't cook, cause our UK couple friend warned us that the kitchen will be very messy tonight because of the boys. Luckily they are only staying for one night.! = )

K and I just had a long call with our tenant. This was after a whole series of emails and complaints from our 2 tenants. They is a huge tension between our 2 tenants now.. and it has grown so bad that one is threatning to beat up the other, and the other is wanting to make a police report move out. Sigh.. We have asked K's mom to help with this, hopefully everything will be settled soon. Really worried they will damage my house man!! I rather not have the rental money than to have my lovely house in ruins because of 2 childish men... Is it really so hard for 2 men to live together? I thought usually they will just ignore each other and go about doing their own thing .. i wonder why like that.. Really so suay choose the wrong tenant..

So far, this is the first time. Everytime we rent out our room, our tenants are all very nice people. Maybe because this time it's the first time we rent out 2 rooms. And we are not around.. Hai.. Anyway, tomorrow will be our last day at the packhouse. Then we are moving off again!! Can't wait.. = )

Our Best Friends' Wedding!

Last Saturday, K and I “attended” the ROM of EK and S on MSN. We had arranged with EK to do the video conferencing at 415pm Auckland time, 1215pm Singapore time. As the internet connection in our host’s house was unstable, K and I had wanted to do the video conference in the library where they had free wireless internet. But library closes at 4pm on Saturdays. In the end, we had to go to Goong’s house to use her wireless.

We reached her house around 4pm. As usual, technology always fails us at the crucial moment. We could not connect to her wireless network on our laptops, so we had to use her husband’s laptop instead. Lucky his laptop has MSN installed on it. By the time we had logged on, it was already 430pm. I was so so worried I will miss their exchange of vows !! But when we logged onto MSN, EK was not online. K kept saying they forgot about us cause it was their big day and there must be a thousand important things to attend to.. I was so sad.. But refused to believe K so I asked him to stay online for a while more. 10 mins later, EK came online. We saw the whole ceremony on video, but unfortunately, there was no sound from either one of our laptops, so I couldn‘t hear them exchange their vows, which is the most important part! Plus, our laptop had no video cam. So in the end, we could only see them, but they cannot see us. We had to type messages on MSN to communicate. Ferene and June were also there, and they kept showing me the food they were eating at the buffet.. So envious! Really glad to see all my dear friends again.. Miss them so much!!! I was so reluctant to go offline, but Goong wanted to start making dinner, so we had to leave. We headed home after that, with the intention to log on again at home, but there was no internet connection when we got home. = (

Oh well, at least I get to see them and “talk” to them. Hopefully we can do the whole video conference thing again, this time with both video and sound! I asked them to arrange one day for the conference.. Not sure if it will be possible!

First wedding dinner in 2009

I attended my first wedding dinner for the year today..

It was my JC classmate's wedding at Amara hotel. He had text us that his solemnization would be at 6pm, but because i was lazy to take the train there myself, i had asked another classmate of mine to give me a lift. And he had asked that we go at 7pm instead.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were surprised to find that dinner had already started.. In fact, that was not the only surprise. We had gone to the lobby expecting the dinner to be at a chinese restaurant or in a ballroom. But we were directed to a casual buffet dinner setting where everyone was just helping themselves to the buffet spread. No sign of the bride and groom. And I was completely over-dressed in my black evening dress and black furry clutch bag. It was embarrassing.

Nonetheless, i survived through the night, chatting with my old friends from JC. Apparently, some of them had known that it was a casual buffet dinner and was dressed casually. Those who witnessed the solemnization related to us about the drama that came with it. Apparently, the couple had gotten friends as witnesses for their solemnization instead of their parents. This was because the bride's family was in China. Everyone was wondering who the Malay guy in the witness chair was. And the groom realized he forgot about the ring when the time came for the ring exchange. His sister had to get it for him from the restaurant where he left it inside a bag.. BEST!! haha.. it was so funny..

Tomorrow marks the 105th month that K and I have been together.. and we are celebrating it by staying at home to plan for our New Zealand trip and send out as many job applications as we possibly can.. Woohoo!!

Excursion to Singapore Botanic Gardens

I took a day off work yesterday and went to the Botanic Gardens.

My friend from Paris had stopped by in Singapore for a few days, en route to New Zealand to pursue her studies.. So.. I decided to be a host and bring her around. During my past 2 trips to Paris, she had brought me around, so i thought i will return the favor.

I totally enjoyed myself as a tourist in my own country.. never knew we have such a nice garden in Singapore!! We went to the National Orchid Gardens, and i saw the biggest orchids I have ever seen in my life... really beautiful flowers there.. I also saw the tiniest pineapple I have ever seen in my life.. very interesting.. And because it was her birthday, i bought her a little souvenir from the Orchid Gardens.. = )

Throughout the trip, we chatted a lot.. mostly about New Zealand, since i was going there soon myself.. and also about Tokyo, since she is also a huge fan of the Japanese culture. She is a French girl who can speak really good Japanese! And she's also a huge fan of plants and flowers apparently. She loved the gardens so much that she said she will come here and work after she graduate with her degree in Environmental Management. She even told me she had thought about getting a tattoo of an orchid on her ankle. That started a whole conversation about tattoos. Once she told me she was interested to get one, i showed her mine. We had so many things to talk about between us i felt we were like old friends!

We had lunch at the food court in Botanic Gardens, went around for a bit more, before we headed to Takashimaya Kinokuniya to find this Japanese book she wanted, and then for some Coffee Club huge-ass mudpie, which she totally loved.. We then headed to Chinatown's famous Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.. It was a really interesting experience for me because if not for her, i would never go inside the temple to look around. We had to don robes because we were not allowed inside with sleeveless tops.. I thought we looked like Jedis, but she said we looked like monks cause our robes were brown.. = )

The temple had like 5 levels and a roof top.. We toured every floor. Unfortunately, i couldn't take any pictures of the temple, because my handphone battery had gone flat from all the photos taken at the Gardens.. All my photos are on Facebook now..

After touring the temple, we went shopping for some Singapore tee shirts, before heading back..

Overall, it was an enjoyable day for me.. Although my legs were super tired from all the walking, and my head hurt afterwards from all the sun! Maybe I should do this more often.. be a tourist and visit all the brown color road signs in Singapore! Hmmm...

Christmas party with my loved ones..

I had my Christmas party at home over the weekend..

This year is the second time we're having a Christmas party at our place with the usual gang. And as usual, we all dressed in green and red.

I decked the living room and kitchen with some decorations to create some festive cheer. K also downloaded a few Christmas albums to play throughout the night, and i borrowed TABOO from Carol for some fun after the feast.

It was potluck, and all of us prepared something for the feast.. I tried my hand at making the tofu that i learned during my Taipei cooking class, but ended up being not very popular. In fact, it became the food for forfeit for the losing team in TABOO!! = (

Macaroon Christmas tree

Baked potato, tofu, sushi, pork knuckles, spaghetti

Ice-cream log cake from Goodwood Park

It was a great party.. good food, great company, and we laughed until our sides ached playing TABOO.. It's amazing how we can guess some of the words based on the clues our friends gave.. = ) Brion is one hellava player. For the word "3D", he said: "What is before 4 and after C?" And "Valentine's Day", his clue was: "What is one day one month after January the 13th?" Best!!

Our friends from the Hundred Acre Woods were not left out either. They were the stars of the evening after S got her present during the gift exchange: 4 baby soft toys of Winnie and friends. So now we have 2 sets!

For the gift exchange, we were supposed to give something of $20 value.. We had picked our receipient a week earlier, and nobody knew who their "Santa" was. Mine was S, and she bought me a nice silver necklace with a dolphin and a cute cup with a lid. B was K's Santa, and as usual, he did not follow the $20 rule and got K a Hugo Boss shirt. He also got me a pink Longchamp coin purse to match my handbag. = ) Actually, i also did not follow the rule. I got a Victorinox mini multi-purpose tool for everyone. Each tool had a different horoscope engraved on it and came in different colors. I have a Libran one and it has served me very well over the past few years! I hope they liked theirs!

We had another round of feasting the day after, mostly to clear the left over food. Played mahjong and watched "The Curse of the Golden Flower" by Gong Li and Chow Yuen Fatt. Very nice show.. boob fest for the guys! = )

The 5 Languages of Love...

I met up with my gang of 3 girls from JC for dinner on Monday.

It was supposed to be a very belated birthday celebration for 3 of us: Myself (Oct), WM (Aug) and HX (Nov)..

Dinner was at this Marche-style Japanese restaurant at Raffles City.

As usual, we were supposed to meet at 7pm but everyone was late. I reached at 630pm, went shopping at Marina Square and ended up being late as well.. how stupid.. -_-

And as usual, HX was the latest, cause she had gone to the hairdresser to dye her hair. During the course of our 2 hour dinner and after, we updated each other on our lives and i found out the following:
  • HX resigned from her Japanese company and now she can't find a job

  • WM's 7 months pregnant now, and it's a boy. They're gonna name him Justas @ "Disciple of God"

  • AB is earning S$5K a month. I think she's been dying to let everyone know how much she earns for like the longest time.. = )

  • AB was sharing with us this called the "5 Languages of Love". Each of us is supposed to have one dominant language of love. K and I both went to take the quiz and realized that both our dominant love language is "Words of Affirmation". Interesting.. So now K and I are experimenting with our new found love languages...
We left the restaurant around 10pm. Dinner was paid for by only the 3 of us, reason being HX was jobless. Frankly, i found that reasoning extremely lame, especially since she had the dough to go dye her hair..

What irks me more is the fact that HX didn't even hesitate when we offered to pay for her share.. Anyway, i didn't dwell very much on that, just paid my share and left..

Oh well..

My 2 week long break!

True to what my horoscope readings said, my social life has been too happening over the past 2 weeks.
I went to Australia for 9 days, then flew to Paris for a week on the same day that i came back from Australia. Came back on 8 Nov, attended two weddings over the weekend, and now back to work - slapped back to the harsh reality of life.. = (

On Oct 24, K and I flew to Western Australia with our good friends, EK, S and F. We rented a car and went on a road trip for 8 days from Perth and down South to Albany and Margaret River. There were many incidents and adventures, and i had the best time of my life. It was the first time i went on a trip with my buddies, and i can't wait for the next one already!

Here are some of the highlights of our Western Australia trip:

  • EK had diarrohea on the 2nd day till the 4th day, then K fell sick and had a vomit tirade on the 3rd day. Both were our assigned drivers for the trip
  • We broke the bathroom lamp in our Perth accomodation
  • We killed a bird during our road trip travelling at 140km/hr
  • F fell down at the carpark outside the Conuhu Wildlife park where S saw and took pictures with the Koala bears for the first time (i saw a Koala bear pee right in front of me for the first time - it had such an ugly butt!)
  • We went sandboarding on the Sand Dunes at the Pinnacles - on our butts. With no proper sand boards. It's an experience i will never ever forget - all 5 of us sliding down this huge sand slope together on the count of 3!
  • We witnessed a super happening gay party in the heart of Perth at Northbridge
  • We attended a surfing competition at Margaret River and saw, during the entire trip, some of the most amazing waves and crystal clear sea i've ever seen in my entire life.. I've seen it before, but it still amazes me how powerful and beautiful the ocean is .. = )
  • We spotted some huge whales, or rather their tails in Augusta
  • We made, and lost, some money at the Burswood casino. And i was not asked for my ID when i entered! A rare case i must say.. = )

K and I arrived one day later than the rest. On the last night, we went to Northbridge and was caught in the middle of a huge festival. The roads were bloked off, and there were temporary stages set up for mini performances. I especially like this little corner where people had set up a silent disco. People were basically given wireless headphones with pre-recorded music, and they could all dance in the middle in silence - It was funny to see all these people dancing in silence, but i thought the idea was totally cool!

My parents in law picked us up from the airport on 2 Nov morning, and we went for tim sum breakfast at the airport. Upon reaching home, we heard a tiny kitten mewing and found it in the bushes below our block. I think it must have been less than 10 days old cause it's eyes were not even open yet. K and I decided to take it home, and thought we had saved its life. We decided to name the kitten Bob. K research on the Internet on how to take care of a baby kitten, then went to buy this special formula milk powder and fed it, and bathe it.

The kitten slept for a while..but then kept mewing at night just before i left for Paris.. we didn't know what was wrong with it, tried to feed it but it didn't drink too much milk, so we just left it there thinking it will probably just fall asleep.

When i arrived in Paris the next day, i received a text message from K. Bob had died.. Until now, K still hasn't gotten over it. He keeps thinking he had caused Bob's death by not using a heating lamp to provide warmth for the kitten. K says Bob most probably froze to death. Sigh.. i don't know how to help K get over it. Hopefully time will heal everything..

I would like to dedicate this blog in loving memory of little baby Bob..

Go Karting at JB

Last weekend was 2 full days of fun and relaxation..

K and I woke up at 530am on Saturday to go Johor for some go-karting. There was a new track circuit (the old Permas track had shifted) so we wanted to check it out. K organized the whole thing and managed to get about 20 people to turn up. We were supposed to meet up at the Woodlands check point at 630am, but ended up everybody was late. We waited about 30 minutes for this one last car, before we decided to head to the circuit first, leaving 2 other cars (friends of friends we didn't really know) behind.

The ride into the new circuit was horrible.. there was no proper road at all, just a narrow pathetic path of sand and gravel.. Only a proper 4-wheel drive can survive the ride! I was in EK's car, and i think his Swift had the lowest suspension in the convoy, cause there were plenty of bumps and i think he got quite a few scatches on the bottom of his car. The new track is much bigger than the old Permas one, but less technical.. I went for only one round under the super hot sun. Didn't really dare to go too fast cause it was a new track, and there was this super steep slope that ends in a bending turn. I was so afraid i will spin out! K and the rest of the guys went for 3 rounds; they even took their lap timings.. And my hubby got the best timing!! = ) so proud of him. But as the saying goes: "No pain, no gain." As usual, our dear old "Gungho" K goes all out when he plays, so during the race, he spun out a couple of times, and then ramped into the tyre perimeter and bruised his waist. Luckily he didn't sprain or broke anything..

After the guys had enough of go-karting, we headed for lunch at my favourite Bak Kut Teh at Taman Sentosa. I had been looking forward to this the whole week! Loved the bak kut teh at this stall. Lotsa ingredients, and very delicious herb-tasting brown soup! The group split up after that. 2 cars went to GIANT supermarket for some grocery shopping, and i brought like 4 rows of Vitagen, cornflakes and shower gel. Wanted to buy some soyabean milk for my cornflakes, but couldn't find any. Can you believe it? No soyabean milk in the whole freaking GIANT! So much for calling themselves "GIANT"!

We headed home after that. Traffic was so smooth that we were not used to it. Upon reaching home, K and I packed some clothes and toiletries and headed straight to Sheraton Towers for our complimentary one night Wedding Anniversary stay and dinner for 2... = )

Birthday Dinner & Drinks @ Clarke Quay

2:07 PM by Adeline Woo 0 comments
I met Ruby and Jasmine for dinner on Monday night after my Jim Rogers talk. June was supposed to join us, but she cancelled out on us last minute due to work fatigue. This was supposed to be my birthday treat. I had suggested GRAINS restaurant at Clarke Quay, as i thought the food would be healthy and not too expensive.

K dropped me off at the Central Mall where GRAINS was located. By then, i was hungry and thirsty. I had not had anything but fruits since lunch, and that was more 4 hours ago! So i decided to head straight to the restaurant and meet the girls there. The first thing i did when i sat down was order a hot cup of chrysanthemum tea. Ruby arrived shortly after, and offered a very hungry me some super nice chocolate croissant roll from this bakery downstairs called "Petit Provence". I liked it so much i wanted to get some myself after dinner, even though one costs 60cents!

Jasmine arrived shortly after, and we ordered some vegetables, beancurd, fried rice, and soup. They had this appetizer dish of fried cod fish that was so nice we asked for a refill. Jasmine asked the waitress if it was chargeable and the waitress told us one bowl costs $2.50. So expensive! So Jasmine tried to pull a fast one, and asked the waitress if she could have 50 cents worth. I laughed so hard my sides ached! In the end, the nice waitress gave us our refill on the house. = )

After dinner, we went to Petit Provence to get the croissants. My chocolate ones were already sold out, but Ruby and Jasmine bought the custard ones. We then decided to go for some drinks at one of the watering holes along Clarke Quay. I had wanted to try out the hospital-themed bar "Clinic" but realized they didn't have indoor seating. I wanted so much to sip my drink from a drip and sit in a wheelchair! But it was too warm to sit outside and "chill". So we decided to go to this club called "LUNAR" instead. Jasmine had a friend working inside so we managed to get in for free. Upon entering the club, i was so fascinated by the decor that i started taking lotsa pictures.

Here are some of my fave shots of this poster of a woman in lingerie, and a red color sculpture of Mao Zhe Dong..

I was quite impressed at how huge the club was. Didn't seem like much from the outside! Loved the decor and furniture inside. And the ceilings were given much attention, with all kinds of framed posters and ornaments hanging from above.

This was the huge red leather sofa that the 3 of us sat in.. Loved the silky red cushions!

And the live band downstairs which started only at 10pm... nothing spectacular.

The various ornaments hanging from the ceilings.. they even had bird cages! = )

The 3 of us left around 1015pm. Jasmine's husband gave us a lift, and dropped me off at K's office. K was working overtime, so i met him at his office, and we went home together after that.
I had a nice evening with my 2 long time buddies (17 freakin years!!).. too bad June wasn't there to complete the group..
