Penang Hawker's Fare @ York Hotel

Last Thursday, K and I met up with my in-laws for dinner at York Hotel.. My mom-in-law had complained to her contact in the hotel about the front desk girl, and her contact (the sales manager) had offered the family a free meal at their famous Penang Hawker's Fare buffet..

Before we met the sales manager Jade, my mom told me that Jade had forwarded my complaint letter to her.. She then asked me to casually passed a comment to Jade when i see her, something like: " I hope my letter didn't put you in a difficult spot..." I was quite reluctant to do so, because i had been quite admanant in my letter, and i didn't want to suddenly become so nicey nice to Jade when i see her.. To me, this was an apology dinner, and if i passed the comment that my mom-in-law wanted me to, it would seem like i am apologizing..

Anyway, I told K about it when i had the chance to.. but he was equally helpless.. So we continued with our gastronomic tour at the buffet tables, savouring the Penang laksa, prawn noodles, Loh Bak, pancakes, fried kuay teow, oyster omelete etc.. Jade did not join us for dinner, she just chatted a bit with us before we started our dinner, and after before we left..

The second time Jade dropped by.. we chatted. The conversation somehow turned to complimentary carpark coupons, and Jade then apologized to me for the expired coupon issue that i mentioned in my complaint letter. It was then that my mom-in-law, who was sitting opposite me, started to kick me from below the table - a signal for me to make my comment.. i was totally irritated by that gesture, and at that time, wished i could just disappear under my chair..

Unfortunately, i was no Copperfield, so i had to make the stupid comment to stop all the footsie going on between my mom-in-law and me.. I gave it my best shot, but i still felt very fake..

Sigh.. the things we do for our in-laws...
